Drain flies breed in the gelatinous organic film lining a drain, a floor sink or a grease line. They do not breed in the air, which is why spraying the room does nothing beyond the ten minutes it takes for the next batch to emerge.

The test that takes five minutes
Tape a clear cup upside down over a suspect drain overnight. Whatever is breeding down there will be in the cup by morning, and you will know exactly which drain to treat. It is the simplest diagnostic in this business and almost nobody does it before quoting.

Straight answers.
Will bleach fix it?
No. Bleach runs straight over the film and down the pipe. It has to be digested by a biological product with enough contact time, which usually means treating when the kitchen is closed.
How is this different from fruit flies?
Different insect, different breeding site, different treatment. Drain flies rest flat on walls and fly weakly; fruit flies hover around the bar. Getting the identification right changes the job.
