Fly Control
House flies and blow flies are almost always an exterior problem that you are letting in. The treatment that works is exclusion and sanitation at the source, with light traps as a catch, not as the whole plan.
What we treat, and where.
- Bin corral, grease trap and dumpster area — the usual source
- Back door, dock door and delivery entrance exclusion, including screens and air curtains
- Correctly placed light traps, away from the door and out of customer sightlines
- Floor drains and any organic build-up inside the kitchen
- Advice on bin lids, collection frequency and corral washdown
- Flies concentrated near the back door and rising through service
- Metallic green or blue flies, which means something is decomposing nearby
- Numbers that spike the day before collection
- Flies in the dining room within sight of the kitchen door
Move the light trap
Most kitchens hang the light trap right by the back door, which is the worst place for it. It draws flies toward the entrance from outside and it sits in a customer sightline. It should be inside, away from the door, out of view, and it should never be the primary control. The bins outside are the actual job.

Will an air curtain fix it?
It helps a great deal if it is the right size and actually maintained. Most that we find are underpowered or switched off. It is one part of exclusion, not a solution on its own.
The bins are the landlord's. What can we do?
We will document it in writing so you have something to take to the landlord or the managing agent. That report has settled a lot of these arguments.
